First XV Match Reports > CWMBRAN 26 CALDICOT 24

Cwmbran completed their home fixtures for 2011 with this last minute 26 - 24 victory over Caldicot on a mudbath of a field. The crows ran out 4 try to 3 winners, the winning converted try coming in the last seconds of a seesaw game.
Caldicot started the better racing into a 10 nil lead via a converted try and a penalty before Cwmbran fullback Chris Wannell cut through for a try which he also converted. As half time approached, however, Caldicot gave themselves a 10 point cushion scoring a converted try following good back play.
Playing down the slope second half Cwmbran were looking to start the better, however, another converted try looked to have cemented a Caldicot win as they led 24 -7. In past matches this season Cwmbran's game may have folded - not now as their true team spirit showed through.
Captain Gareth Roberts began the transformation, ghosting over for a try showing his sublime skills. The pack throughout were always winning enough ball and prop Shane James capped a fine game with a try close to a maul - Wannell converted. With Cwmbran now trailing by five points with minutes remaining it was 'game on' and from the last play lock Micki Witts crashed over for a try wide out after relentless forward pressure. Ice cool goalkicking by Chris Wannell ensured his conversion bisected the posts for an excellent Cwmbran win
